There are lots of ways you can support the massive effort of Saving our Species. Why not:
Tell us what you’re already doing

A key part of Saving our Species is building a better understanding of the threatened species work being undertaken by different organisations. We are interested in hearing about threatened species work happening around NSW, so if you are currently involved in threatened species management or research, register your interest and share information on your activities.
You can do this by completing our:survey for researchers, or survey for land managers and conservation groups.

Are you undertaking threatened species conservation but are not affiliated with any group or organisation? Contact us and tell us about your work, or join a conservation group.

Register for program updates

Join the Saving our Species e-list to be notified of major program developments and kept updated with the latest information on threatened species management.Search your local area for conservation project sites
Search our website by species, species type, local government area or suburb, to find a conservation project in your area.

Get the kids involved

There are many interactive and exciting opportunities to get your kids involved in learning about NSW’s threatened species and how we can protect our precious environment.
Explore different environments online through WilderQuest to encourage children to fall in love with nature and help them protect it.Join a Discovery walk, talk or tour in a local park or reserve.Plan a family outing.Become a Backyard Buddy and help protect native animals in your own garden.Become a Taronga wildlife defender.Visit the Royal Botanic Gardens Kids Zone.Learn about our national threatened species in the Green Kids guide to threatened species.

Volunteer your time

Exciting volunteer opportunities are available in many NSW national parks, nature reserves and state conservation areas. Our parks and wildlife benefit hugely from the generous time and dedication of thousands of volunteers each year.

Join a conservation group

Saving our Species is about working together. There are numerous groups working to protect threatened species across NSW and Australia. Why not find out more about their work or join them?

Some examples include:
Local Land Services (LLSs) run programs about threatened species and ecological communities that involve community groups you may be able to join. Contact your local LLS for more information.

Support your local council

Councils throughout the state are doing wonderful work to help secure threatened species in their local government areas. Many councils promote their work on their websites and others have volunteer groups you can join.
Contact your local council today to see how you can get involved in their conservation or threatened species projects.

Help care for threatened species

Consider entering into a conservation agreement or making your property a wildlife refuge if you own land with suitable habitat for threatened species and other native plants and animals.Adopt a corroboree frog: the southern corroboree frog is threatened with extinction and needs your help.Help save a threatened plant by supporting the Australian PlantBank run by the Botanic Gardens Trust.


Many wildlife carer groups welcome the participation of those with the time and dedication to care for sick or injured native animals, including threatened species. You will be required to undertake a short training course, after which you can:care for animals in your homeparticipate in surveysrescue dehydrated or injured native wildlife.
Report a species sighting

If you've seen a threatened species in NSW, please report it to OEH. This information is passed on to the GIS unit for entry into the NSW Wildlife Atlas.
