Over the years the residents have received help from many community minded organizations to assist with the work in establishing new planting and habitats along the creek.
The employees of Boeing Corporation were one of the groups who provided help with the work. Boeing recognized the absence of old growth trees, which provide shelter and nesting opportunities for birds and mammals and in 2005 funded the installation of nine habitat boxes.
An audit of the boxes in 2010 revealed all homes fully occupied with a range of park dwellers. Most notable were two colonies of glider possums as well as lorikeets, native bees and ringtail possums.
To encourage a more diverse range of wildlife to the park, the Corbie park Group set about to raise funds to install additional boxes to the park with our “Housing Crisis in Corbie St. Park”.
Our local Councillor, Geraldine Knapp funded twelve of the new nesting boxes from the Lord Mayor’s Suburban Initiative Fund.
Support from prominent local identities Simon Parer, George Hadgelias, Evolve Environmental Solutions and local residents has allowed the group to install an additional five boxes.
The new habitat boxes from Hollow Log Homes will provide nesting sites and homes for the existing residents; gliders, lorikeets and possums as well encouraging wood ducks, boobook owls and micro bats to call the park home.
